About Kier Associates

Headquartered in San Rafael, California – but with projects and bases throughout northern California, the Pacific Northwest and Alaska – Kier Associates is a group of dedicated scientists with a long and highly successful history of providing environmental science support services to state and federal natural resource conservation agencies, Native Tribes, environmental nonprofit organizations and private wildland managers.

Formed in the 1980s to assist water quality and fish population assessments in the San Francisco Bay-Delta Estuary the Kier Associates team was soon at work, as well, assisting the Klamath River Basin Fisheries Task Force with development of its Klamath Long Range Plan; creating an innovative watershed information management platform, KRIS, used to support watershed renewal programs throughout northern California, the Columbia River basin and the Gulf of Maine; and developing Pacific salmon species recovery plans for the National Marine Fisheries Service, including that for Southern Oregon /Northern California Coast Coho, which embraces 39 major Pacific Coast watersheds and smaller watershed groups.

In recent years our work has expanded to include terrestrial resource conservation, including avian population monitoring, forest management support and archeological research. We have provided contracted ecologists, engineers and marine mammal monitors to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Alaska Region and planning specialists to the National Park Service. We are providing Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (‘SWPPP’) services to the National Park Service and others.

In addition to a natural resources professional services (‘Blanket Purchase Agreement’) contract awarded by the U.S. Forest Service and two five-year contracts with the U.S. Bureau of Land Management to perform avian surveys, the Kier Associates team was awarded a $10 million U.S. General Services Administration Federal Supply Schedule environmental services contract (number GS10F0124U) in 2008. The GSA contract enables expedited access to the Kier Associates team’s services, particularly by our federal resource agency clients. Test
